A Practice with Purpose

We strive for a world where people are empowered to resolve their differences with dignity, where families navigating separation are met not with conflict, but with compassion, where children are shielded from harm and where every person—no matter how painful the moment—can see a path forward to a more hopeful future.

As founder of Olivia Koorey Mediation & Family Law, Olivia brings to this space almost 20 years of experience as a specialist family lawyer, most recently as a Practice Director at a top tier family law firm in Sydney. In this time, Olivia has cultivated a deep expertise across the full spectrum of family law. Her practice spanned straightforward to highly complex financial matters, including high net worth individuals and property pools involving trusts, corporate structures and international assets. She is experienced in child support, spouse maintenance, de facto property disputes and parenting cases ranging from routine to high-conflict. Her work included domestic and international relocation matters, cases involving serious allegations of family violence and abuse, disputes shaped by drug and alcohol dependency, mental health concerns, and diverse family structures—including same-sex parenting and matters involving a third parent.

Olivia has acted in cases that have shaped legal precedent and has achieved successful outcomes before the Full Court on appeal. Her international experience includes jurisdictions such as Singapore, the United States, the United Kingdom, Dubai, Qatar, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, New Zealand, Cyprus and Argentina. Further, she has been recognised in family law in the Doyle’s Guide, an independent Australian publication that ranks and profiles the country’s leading lawyers, law firms, barristers, and mediators, in 2019, 2020 , 2021 and 2024.

In terms of formal qualifications, Olivia holds an Honours in Law and Master of Laws (Applied Law) majoring in Family Law and is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law. However, perhaps more importantly, Olivia also has a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology, and a deep belief in the power of empathic, respectful, empowering, child-focused and sensitive practice. Olivia is a Nationally Accredited Mediator, Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, Collaborative Professional and Parenting Coordinator, because she wants to offer families more than just legal solutions—she wants to offer them a way forward.

For us, the work is about more than the law. It’s about healing. It’s about helping people through one of the most difficult chapters of their lives with clarity, care and courage. That is why Olivia has committed her career to family law and to family dispute resolution—because she believes that how we separate, matters just as much as how we come together.

This practice is the culmination of that vision. It is where Olivia brings together everything she has learned to help families move through conflict with less pain, more peace and a renewed sense of possibility.
